The 2020 Great Kindness Challenge

Dear Hussey Families;

During the last week of January (next week), we will be participating in The 2020 Great Kindness Challenge where we will join thousands of schools around the country to extend our focus of kindness to some everyday common activities.  This is our first year participating so we have chosen a few special activities to highlight:

~Spirit Days with a kindness theme.

~A Great Kindness Checklist for students to keep track of “acts of kindness” throughout the week.

~Thought provoking quotes integrated as part of our daily announcements for class discussion and brainstorming activities.

As you are aware, we have four guiding principles of focus at the school; Honesty, Effort, Respect, and Ownership (Hussey HERO) and we felt The Great Kindness Challenge falls right in line with those areas of focus as well as the weekly lessons our students are working through as part of the social/emotional curriculum, Second Step.

The Great Kindness Challenge offers so many wonderful ideas that focus on kindness but again, for this, our first year, we chose the above three ideas.

Here are the Spirit Day themes (and as always, participation is optional):

Monday, January 27th  “Team up for Kindness” (wear your favorite team logo hat, shirt, sweatshirt, etc. )

Tuesday, January 28th  “Ride the Wave to Kindness” (beach-themed attire such as sun glasses, shade hats, tropical prints, etc., please no bathing suits)

Wednesday, January 29th “Crazy for Kindness” (Crazy/mismatched socks and/or crazy hair)

Thursday, January 30th “Love, Kindness, and Harmony” (Festive colors, tie-dyes, blue jeans)

Friday, January 31st “Kindness is the Hussey Way” (School spirit wear or school colors of white and blue)

THANK YOU
