2020-2021 MSAD #60 District Elementary Schools opening letter

August 20, 2020

Greetings,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! This summer has presented our district with significant challenges and opportunities. We have appreciated your support and patience throughout this process. Utilizing feedback from staff and families and creative problem solving with a focus on educating our students safely using guidelines from the Maine CDC, we have created a two-model approach for educating our students during the pandemic.

If you have chosen the hybrid model, you will find pertinent information to the start of school on the following pages along with information on mask requirements. If you have chosen the remote model, you will receive additional information from Shannon Swiger, the Director of Teaching and Learning. We look forward to working with you and your children with our goal being to create a safe environment where all students have fun learning, and where families feel connected to our school. Be on the lookout for a letter from your child’s teacher. If you haven’t received a letter by August 31, 2020, please contact your child’s school.

Parent and family involvement in a child’s education is incredibly important. Please feel free to stay in touch with your child’s teacher and the administrative team throughout the school year.

See you soon,

Michael Archambault

All students and adults in our buildings and riding on our buses are required to wear masks that cover their noses and mouths. Your child will be wearing a mask, (2 ply cotton or disposable paper), each day and we recommend bringing extra masks in a ziploc bag in their backpack. Disposable masks are available for any student needing one.

It is understandable that children may feel uncomfortable wearing cloth face coverings at first. Here are a few ideas to help them adjust:

  • Look in the mirror with the face coverings on and talk about it.

  • Put a cloth face covering on a favorite stuffed animal.

  • Decorate them so they're more personalized and fun.

  • Show your child pictures of other children wearing them.

  • Draw one on their favorite book character.

  • Practice wearing the face covering at home to help your child get used to it.
